Lawson CEO is very right from a long term perspective. The health of the SaaS vendor is also important , before you bet on them. If SaaS vendors are not profitable, then how can they innovate and bring new versions of their products?

I think this scenario is same as dot-com bust era. The dot-com companies thought giving things free or at a high discount rate will make them successfull. But we all know what happened.

I still think SaaS is yet to prove as a viable business model. Nobody is arguing SaaS from technical grounds. It is already proven by Yahoo mail and salesforce.

Amazon EC2 and Google App engine may change the scenario for SaaS. Because they are based on open architecture ,unlike the current SaaS vendors where proprietary technologies are used.
