ris - These companies won't just stop using it because it's patented. The financial settlement is typical of large companies: throw money at the problem. But they wouldn't have thrown money at him unless he had a valid patent which was being infringed. Verizon, typical since they are filled with a**holes top to bottom, not only treat their customers like crap but actually worked to make a pre-emptive strike on this company. Not surprising...Verizon stubbornly sticking to its guns and refusing to pay someone (sound familiar? If you're a Verizon customer, it should). Apparently ATT and Apple did their research and thought that enough of the claim was valid to pay out on it. Courts can only use money to remedy these problems unless the defendant agrees not to use the invention anymore, which again, is not going to happen. Good for the inventor, I say!
