You wrote, perceptively:
People get overwhelmed when faced (especially on computers) with too many things, too many questions, too much info at once.

That kind of overload is a real hazard. Leads to errors, haste in consideration of responses, even abandonment of what's really a minor effort.

I think the cause is built-in; people primitively expect to remember prior answers in the same way their throats work while they read, as if they were speaking aloud.
Also, people are uncomfortable any time they have to follow a machine. The pc is too demanding even when it follows them.

So I think your tabs are a kind of refresh, a chance to forget, and to release the sense of a demand being made.

Sound sensible?
