Seeking full time volunteer Prep Cooks.
Open Source has always had one massive flaw from the start....

Too many cooks spoil the broth... Everybody wants to be a chef.

By design, Open Source offers the dream that we are all going to get together and collectively make one awesome broth, that will be the best the world has ever seen and it will be free for everyone, everybody gets to be a chef, come join the fun? Again.. too many cooks spoil the broth?

Siding with that analogy, Torvalds cliff notes read, ?we don't need more chefs, but are willing to let some prep cooks dice some onions, chop celery, run and get some spices from the back, etc.? (Do our crap work that no one else wants to do, but no FNG better get in our way)

Open Source is like ?free love? in the 60's... Great idea... if it didn't contradict human nature on every level. Man is full of pride, desire, greed, lust, envy, hate? Roll all of these into one and we get to label it ambition, drive, and motivation. If you?re not getting laid and you don?t have the things you want, then you are going to leave the commune.

Open Source is chaotic, you could have a thousand people duplicating the same work, and each newby that comes along has a huge learning curve. It needs far more organization, communication, delegation, focus, clear direction, etc. A very, very, very competent project manager/leader with a vision that 99.99999999999% of the population lacks.

Granted I am always rooting for anything to overthrow the evil oppressive copycat Redmond Empire. But their reign is crumbling. They got to number 1 by back-stabbing, stealing, undermining, and obfuscating. The courts have gotten savvy, and thus, their success model no longer works. They lack the vision to lead the future, then again, they never possessed that vision. Apple has that vision and seems to be doing everything right at the moment. I don?t know if Torvalds is capable of the vision necessary to innovate and lead tomorrow. His dream is old and stagnant, yet still admirable and attractive? But then again, free love is admirable and attractive, but still impossible within a society full of ambition, drive, and motivation.

Call me a pessimist, but I just don?t see it coming to full fruition, regardless, I wish them the best.
