Methods might not be free or open...
...but the code is, which is all anyone ever promised. I think it would be nice if code reviews could be conducted in the same way as professional orchestra auditions (completely blind), but in practice, I don't think there's time for that. In the end, the project manager has to extend a good deal of trust (works that way in the proprietary world as well, only much more so... we don't normally take outside contributions at all) and that trust has to be earned if reasonable quality is to be maintained.
