I used to have a rubber band powered...
bird that flew very fast and beat out a lot of airplane style toys that used gas/electric motors.

It was built along the Leonardo da Vinci principles; which proved to me his flying machines would have worked had he had enough horse power and light enough materials.

It flapped so realistically that it made you believe you had a live bird in your yard. The thing would fly a good hundred yards before landing. If I had put some kind of electric guidance on it, I think it would have gone even farther!
