Intriguing
As much as I appreciate and use Wikipedia, it does suffer from some serious flaws and is in desperate need of competition. I doubt that Knol is the perfect alternative. Rather, I think it may be significantly flawed itself. Nevertheless, it could be a fantastic counterweight to Wikipedia.

The opportunity to attach your name to an article will surely motivate many contributors, and I further suspect that it will ultimately improve accuracy as well.

The ability to vote on articles, introduces another level of competition. Of course, I'm sure Google will make sure Knol articles are properly indexed in its search engine. happy

Sounds like a winning combination to me.
