Finally someone saw through these silly semantic arguments.

Quit arguing over the definition of a term, because the discussion is about a filter, not the definition of SPAM. The discussion is about filters based on user desireability, not based on an unsophisticated and dogmatic definition of SPAM. According to Mr. Wahd's (cute, btw) rigid (and shallow) semantic argument, any email from my friends and relatives that I didn't specifically ask for is SPAM. Hardly fits the spirit of SPAM. I don't think that's a very sophisticated argument and doesn't contribute anything to the problem of how to reduce the impact of unwanted email. "Unwanted" is a much more useful definition than "unrequested" in a discussion of filtering technologies. Filtering "unrequested" email is trivial (assuming anything from a friend is "requested") -- that's just a whitelist of known senders. You sign up for a newsletter, add them to the list and you're done.
