ADA compliance could be a muzzle on Internet speech
As a blogger, I can see how the Americans with Disabilities Act could be used as a punitive yardstick set so that people without the resources of a major corporation (i.e., bloggers as opposed to news organizations) could be barred from using the Internet to publish their views. This would be an incredibly regressive development and could be exploited by the same people who yearn to restore the so-called "Fairness Doctrine" in order to muzzle political comment in the electronic media in general.

There are tax-supported institutions whose entire mission is to develop tools for Internet access that are tailored to individual users' communication challenges. Tackling barriers to Internet use at the user's end is much preferable to imposing one-size-fits-none standards for Web sites which would be expensive and not very effective at addressing individual problems with Internet access.
