More than the common user
I think one thing overlooked by many regarding google is their target market. It might seem a rediculous suggestion for such a broad search engine but it is not really. Google is more than the common persons search engine. They are not just another service providing free personal email and other such novalties to gain market share. Google has established itself as a savy company with a public image of being both scientific/and technologically advanced. It has not been until recently Google has come out with such things and free personal email. Yet they have dominated the search engine marked for years. They have made their living winning the confidence of academic institutions, medical institutions, research companies and professionals all over the world. They have gotten themselves tied into these institutions all over the world with their programming interfaces and have listened closely to these institutions and professinals to hear their wants and needs in a search engine.
In establishing themselves in the market this way they have gained the confidence of the entire market as the very best. Allthough they may have made blunders in their financial undertakings on wall street they have made no blunder in developing a first class company with a product and public image that every one has bought into. I doubt most of the public cares much or even knows very much about their stumblings making their IPO. But if you ask them what the best search utility on the web is, hands down it is google. That says to me that this is going to be a solid dot com company that will also eventually learn to be a savy Wall Street player.

Dispitefully yours
