You give Microsoft too much credit
Microsoft was just in the right place right time 3 times in row by pure luck. The computer industry was moving along regardless of Microsoft.

Now you can give Bill Gates credit for balls. I mean if IBM came to me asking for an Operating System, thinking I had one even though my company has nothing to do with firewall I doubt I'd have balls to tell them I did. Then run out buy a OS and modify it to work on the IBM PC. You got to admit that take a lot of balls.

Now Microsoft's rise to success was handed to them after that. Compaq reverse engineered the BIOS, Apple ignored it's installed base to make the Macintosh, and IBM priced themselves right out the market with OS2. Who couldn't be successful with events like that occurring? A moron could pull it off!
