But it does generate revenue
My little development company is a perfect example of how Open Source generates revenue. Part of the money my clients would have spent on proprietary products they spend instead on development and integration services.
My clients are much happier with this approach because they get better integration and support on top of a more reliable infrastructure. (see my earlier post).

And there are many, many companies like mine busily generating revenue from Open Source. The key thing is that this revenue results from real added value.
