Investigate for your self
Yes, this is exactly what I did.

I run a small development company that was all-windows based with Windows 2000 servers.

Intrigued by the growing interest in Open Source I switched a Windows 2000 server over to Linux.

To my astonishement I found it ran much faster (on the same hardware) and was far, far more reliable and stable (it never fell over!)

I was about to start development of an intranet for a cost conscious client. So I took the plunge and persuaded him to accept Linux.

The result was a resounding success, easy development, low cost, fast, efficient and very reliable.

That experience finally persuaded me to jettison all my MS Windows technology.

Now I run a thriving business developing corporate intranets based on open source tehnology.

An interesting rider, some of the money my clients save on hardware and software they spend instead on more services. This means they get better support and better integration. My clients love this.
