IT and working in IT are two different things. From my limited experience corporate companies are mostly to blame here.

IT is a a world full of change and invention and innovation. You cannot possibly be bored with this. Everyday there is something about to be launched or something new being added.

Working in IT, well...you are forced to adopt to the "if it still works we will keep it" mindset no matter what the end cost to company is. Change is the last thing on a managers mind IT related particularly as many of them are not IT inclined. You have to stick with year old programs and software giving endless support while at the same time dealing with another factor, The User...some of whom are difficult to deal with and not interested in learning anything IT related as long as it works for them.

Most companies do not maintain a proper headcount for IT and their structure is downright ridiculous where each IT member is stretched to their limits. I created this view from our own organisation as well as listening to others about theirs.

So lets put it this way, there is IT, and then there is the way top management views IT. While you undergo hard work you are also forced to endure very long hours and it maintains this repetitive strain which eventually becomes very very boring.
