Given that optical media on earth are potentially damaged by sunlight, I can only wonder how it is that scientists would expect a DVD to survive the extreme conditions of Mars without being properly shielded from the elements. Another photo in this series shows the effects of the sun on packing material a mere day after its arrival. Is this some super-DVD made with materials much more durable than commercially produced media?
