Most of the launch site were not underground, but in missile barns (sheds) surrounded by 20ft high burns of dirt. The launch system was designed so that the missile could be fired from a number of locations, in fact in a firing exercise on the island of Crete our missile was launched from the control station at the launcher. Although this was not the normal way, but due to technical difficulties, we were allowed to fire from this location.
