The bunker is probably overkill for the realistic range of threats, but like Iron Mountain here in the States, the idea is that the data will still EXIST regardless of what happens outside the bunker.

A savvy consumer could do worse than make regular backups of his or her hard drive to a multi terabyte external hard drive, then store the external drive in a stout metal case.
