yes it is and Linux is flattery for windows.
I'll agree that the concept of what java is attempting and the internet where something Microsoft ignored for awhile.

But at least MS will recognize when it is missing something and actually derive a quality answer to it. THe quality answer to a messy java is C# on the .NET plateform. Its kind of all those things that the java world couldnt put together in 8 years of existence. And no language can run on any platform natively which was javas claim...Its just not true. To run java you must install it.

Yeah yeah, Java could run on windows if it was native to windows, but hey, where was the unix world when MS and Apple where taking the desktop OS seriously? And where was the unix world when MS understood the integration of a common desktop with the server would provide for a very powerful, productive environement. The Unix world and poor Novell where still churning away at the wonders of green screens, compilers and command line utilities never thinking technolgy resources would advance.

So yes Java was an idea credited with SUN. But for some reason the Unix camp can never seem to mold their ideas into great products unless their suited for green screens on a server. C# on .NET shows that in terms of development and applications, MS is King. and Im not going to sweat the details about performance on windows. That argument is dead. The only area MS needs to really focus on now is security.

So the rest of the anti MS world is looking to Linux as their great savior, which is ironically trying to become more like windows.

I'll also point out that Linux is a form of flattery for windows.

I will I agree, however, that MS does need to make it easier to run C# on mulitple platforms. Im not that stupid to think the whole world of computing will be running on windows servers anytime soon. Unix, AS400 are still widely used and good server platforms. Unfortuantely the development environements and applications on those platforms have been lacking. Thanks to MS pressure, their may actually be attempts to improve them.
