Yes, what an inspired move. Take something which offered complete interoperability, total independence from the supporting oS, and turn it into a hobbled b*stard child designed to strengthen Microsoft wormware lock-in by not being inter-operable with anything except Windows.

If 2 Unix boxes, a linux cluster and a VMS machine wanted to share a common application, could they use .net and no Microsoft products anywhere?

No, of course not.

But they could all use Java.

.net - write anywhere, run on Windows
