There is a truth to this
Java didn't do anything revolutionary in the marketplace except for making it mainstream. Smalltalk and Powerbuilder are, at their core, much better than standard VB, but were used in pockets. It also did something no one talks about.. made Microsoft wake up. This is why competition is so important. I would argue that .Net would have never been created without Java. Why would M$ spend the money? Even if Java dioes nothing else, I still hope it or another development environment, keeps pushing the envelope. Otherwise, there will be no more innovation.
