I actually have to do this quite a bit. We can receive hundreds of
photos in a week and many professional photographers are
VERY inexperienced in the computer end of pictures. If they
scan, they don't scan at the right resolution (300). If they shoot
digital they import at 72. We've also had to take some really bad
amateur pics and fix them for publication.
I have, on occasion, really pumped up the resolution (like 1200)
and then used Gaussian blur to smooth things out. You get
better print quality if you then make a postscript file and distill it
at the quality levels mentioned in my earlier post.
I really don't know about these phone cameras, but I assume
that an experienced Photoshop guy could get them at least a
little better. My guess is that, eventually, the quality of the cams
