- RE: Forums aflame over 'Grand Theft Auto IV' freeze
- Ever since I got to about 30% into GTA4 my game has been freezing. I first called Rockstar/2k and they had me go through a bunch of steps that didn?t work. After 3 weeks of trying to figure out what the problem is, they handed me over to Sony. The first time I called I told them about my problem with GTA4 they immediately transferred me to a person dedicated to this particular problem. Hmmmm??we went through the same steps with Rockstar and I was told that if it freezes again then you may need a new system. What!?!?. I told the rep from Sony that the rest of my games worked fine and GTA is the only game givining me a problem and he said that it may be a software issue. Well of course it froze again and this point I?m pissed. I replaced the hardrive, reformatted the hardrive and deleted the game data including my game save (which I backed up). After doing all of that it worked for a day then it started freezing again. I called Sony 8 or 9 times after that and every time I called I got a different story. Finally I got someone on the phone that seemed to know what he was talking about. The rep told me that the first rep I ever spoke to was right, that it is a software issue and the is NO PLANS FOR A FIRMWARE UPDATE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. The only way you will be able to play GTA4 is to send in the ps3 for repairs. The rep said that because of the way SOME of the ps3?s were made, there is a compatibility problem with GTA4 on some of these systems. So they e-mailed me a Service Request Number and shipped me a box. I sent my system in for repairs and I?m waiting to see how quickly I?m going to get my system back. So far this looks like the only way anybody is going to play GTA4 on their ps3 is to send it in for repair. It does not look like we are going to see a firmware download to fix this problem. I suggest that if your having freezing problem with GTA4 to give Sony a call. If the rep say ?wait for a download then call back and keep calling to you get someone on the phone the seems like they have a clue as to what needs to be done to get your GTA4 working on your system.
