RE: Grand Theft Auto IV hits the streets--it's a '10'
Interactive games are the latest thing to be blamed for violence etc. but the fact still remains that if I let any of my kids play these games they wouldn't suddenly turn into sociopathic cop-killers. Get a grip! It's too easy to take the responsibility away from parents and blame the latest form of entertainment, whether it's Games, TV, movies, comic books, novels (Lady Chaterly's Lover, Clockwork Orange), (er... Shakespear's plays?).
If kids (or adults) are impressionable enough to have their 'real world' behavior affected by playing a game, they would also be affected by any number of other things going on around them (and therefore probably need counselling and/or therapy).
Should we all live without these sort of games just because a small percentage of the population can't separate their 'actions' in a virtual world from their action in the real one? Or should we offer choice, and effective parenting?
