The Patriot Act changes some of that...
You are still protected against unresonable search and seizure. But thanks to the Patriot act, if it falls under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act , and almost anything these day can: (and I quote and paraphrase from law articles)
-They don't actually have to tell you they searched you house until AFTER the fact (way after)
-"Subjects of foreign intelligence wiretaps do not have to be told that they are being wire-tapped, even if the evidence is used against them in court."
-"Any investigative or law enforcement officer...may disclose such contents to any other Federal law enforcement, intelligence, protective, immigration, national defense, or national security official" So the whole "do not share" thing is out.

And I find the statement "governmental agencies have the power to violate the 4th amendment" just scary in itself.

I don't have anything against these powers directly, for they may be needed to used; But only in limited and controlled circumstances, with the proper checks and balances; and that's just not happening.
I've considered that the CIA and other agenies have been doing things like this since before I was born; Yet in the later 70's laws were passed because the agencies were getting out of hand; even tapping politicians houses. That's what I see will happen in our future.
