quality is all hype!
Macs are very pretty - great if your computer sits on your living room table but in my study it could sit in a well ventilated cardboard box for all I care - just so long as it works. I have friends with PCs in $150 cases that run slower than mine in it $20 one. It is what is inside that matters and even there quality is mostly hype and brand name - I have found that generic memory, hard drives and other components work just as reliably (sometimes better) than the big name components. It's a pity we dont yet have generic motherboards and processors.

Quite apart from company's that would clone them - Apple completely miss out on the huge market for people who prefer to build their own computers.

The only downside I see for mac users is that if Macs or mac clones grew in popularity so would they attract greater interest from hackers and virus distributors who would see a big enough challenge to bother about! Then we might see how secure OSX really is
