Actually I think software patents should be abolished, because they offer little or no assistance to the growth of the software industry. Software patents affect almost everyone negatively. This includes: professional developers; small to mid-sized ISVs; large customers; even amateur developers and small (user) organizations and individual users. Overall software patents put too many people at legal risk when they develop and use software. However, I do enjoy watching OSS fans squirm at the prospect of OSS having to deal with thorny legal issues. So I guess then software patents are not all bad. happy
