A lot of shortsighted replies here...
I can see what the article is getting at... but then again I'm an IT guy in an organisation undergoing an IT revolution, so I would say that wink

Seriously though, if IT are clued up enough about business processes, and if they are proactive enough, they can get systems in place to greatly improve workflows and lift productivity for an organisation.

For example in our organisation the website is being revamped hugely, along with some of the services and products that the organisation offers, so that customers are more readily able to purchase online, and organisation members are much more able to track inventory and so on and manage the service and product delivery process much more easily largely thanks to consolidation of a number of databases and processes into a single unified system. The result? More sales, more service delivery, more revenue.

It's not nearly as far-fetched as most of you cynics seem to think.

Good IT really does have a lot to offer a business or organisation because they see all parts of it most of the time, and (if they're good) can see how different parts of a business can work together more effectively better than almost anyone else.
