RE: How IT can save us from recession
I have spent 8 years installing infrastructure, modern software, communications and keeping our systems up with the times and the largest failure I see is the workforce that refuses to take advantage of what is being offered.
1. Senior Managers who think sending their administrative assistants to training but refusing to do any of it themselves. And the same managers stand at a party bragging about their leadership into technology fields.
2. Middle managers who will swear up and down that they cannot give up their people for training on the new systems and opting for "train the trainer" and never letting the trainer have time to train anyone.
3. End users who will go to extremes to keep doing things "the way we have always done it" and swearing that there is no other way to do "this" other than the way we do it now. Generations of people who just passed the resposibility for adopting technology on to their kids starting with the blinking VCR clocks and continuing currently with mobile technology phobia. How many peole do you know who cannot make a cell phone call or check their email without an Icon?
Couple that with IT professionals who have just become tired of swimming upstream and give up trying to shed light on a path very few want to see.
