Actually i think he has a point. As an IT professional i see plenty of organizations that are due for an upgrade in IT and software capabilities that would make their business more effective. This increase in effectiveness would directly make them more competitive globally and help (to some extent) our ability to pull out of a recession. Our economy is stimulated via the fervor of transactions. Getting business to buy IT, employee business software that is tied to quality benefits is like improving our infrastructure in a knowledge economy. There is a domino effect in spurning work which spurns jobs, which spurns employees to spend $$ and so on. All of this and we do actually build something of benefit - more productive operations. We have a consumer based economy and those who think we should stop and conserve movement of fundamental monetary transactions promote the elements that keep us in recession. Just look at Japan...
