I'm not an expert on New York's train system (but I play one in Florida) but I believe Grand Central is a Terminal and not a Station. The difference is at a terminal all traffic comes to an end or starts. Whereas at a station trains can pass trough on to other locations. When I was last there NOBODY stood still or they would get knocked over by the crowds chasing the next express.
