And it's because of that half-baked Java support that ALL BD players other than the PS3 will be obsolete. There are already lawsuits against Samsung for its BD profile 1.0 players not being able to play 1.1 profile. When profile 2.0 comes out later this year, you got a whole more problems coming. To add insult to injury, BD players have gone up significantly in price since the demise of HD DVD.

HDi technology was fully baked from the launch of HD DVD. Toshiba lost because they weren't willing to take billions in losses up front like Sony giving away BD players in the PS3. So at the end of the day, Sony?s dumping of BD players in to the market place caused the mature standard to lose the format war. The problem for Sony is that it isn?t clear exactly what it is they won. I don?t know many people who are in the mood to pay $45 for a BD movie.
