A good case...
I agree w/ the sentiment asking "Why now", however, after reading through the patent, I think Gibson will win.

The patent plainly refers to a "virtual reality" system that can be used for "entertainment purposes". A pretty fair description of an interactive video game.

As to who is guilty of greed, I think that goes both ways.

Yes, Gibson is getting something now, and wants more. But what about Activision? This could probably be settled for $.50 to $1.00 per future copy sold as a royalty to Gibson.

Instead, Activision wants to drag it to court, pay the lawyers millions, and in the end add the royalty plus more to offset the litigation cost.

As usual, in the end the consumer will get screwed.
