It gets better from here...
I have been telling people about the coming "make your own monster kits" for the last 8 years and I am glad that I am finally seeing similar ideas expressed by a scientist as well known as Freeman Dyson. As a computer engineer I see parallels between genetics and programming that are amazing. In the short term I think what Dyson envisions will be limited to the pharmecutical corporations as they continue to try to make profit from their increasing understanding of the expression of genes to proteins. So we will first see the "easy" stuff, genetic treatments for changing eye color, hair color or texture, even skin color should be very easy to do once all the expressed genes are found for each desired attribute. Before that we should see the treatments for fat reduction and retention. (some of the genes have already been found) Creating a new trait is simply a matter of activing the correct matrix of gene expressions to elicit the desired outcome in the individual. Already the pieces of the puzzle have been created and are starting to come together, a few years ago scientists genetically added the gene for chemical luminescence found in fireflies to a plant! Yes plant and animal genes together, this is only the beginning......you thought the microchip was a revolutionary invention..in the next 20 years "Watson and Crick" will have the same significance to our daily lives as "Shockley and Bardene", to think that we are fortunate enough to witness **two** paradyme shifts in human technology within our lifetime...it's a great time to be alive.
