Job Loss or Wage Adjustments?
Here's the problem with the outsourcing model and the management that advocates it.

Who is going to buy your wares, when they are unemployed?

This whole problem goes back to the fact that "rich" executives can't see "common programmers" making money in the range that management does. The outsourcing issue, the H-1B and L-1 issue are all smoke screens for the end agenda. Lower WAGES for perceived "production" type of work.

If the industry thinks that threatening to outsource long enough will help them lower wages, then they have a big surprize waiting for them at the end of the rainbow. With High Tech jobs going overseas, who will be interested in them here?

With unemployment high amongst those that have the skill sets, and a nation that is THE MARKET who will buy the wares and the technology when they can't afford to feed themselves? If the wares from abroad are bought here by companies without IT professionals, who will maintain them and verify that security safeguards and IP are protected? Who will have the skills sets here to do that, if the industry has created their own self-fulfilling prophecy of a lack of skilled IT workers, and college students decline seeking IT skills for a more "promising" career?

I have a suggestion for the industry, get over yourself. FAST.

If you think you can sell wares to Indian companies and other overseas interests, where will your profits come from? They won't pay you for work they make and can do themselves.....or can they?

If you unemploy and alienate the entire US market for high tech hardware and software who will buy your wares? The "developing" nations that can't afford their own business development and sales internally without selling to those that have the "money"?

You will not lower wages as you hope, you will only increase them, and pay them to a lesser controlled nation's employees. Remember the shakedown of the transcriptionist, for a quick lesson in the lack of managerial control that will be yours, once you become aware of the true results of your quest for lower wages in the US.
