Protectionist Measures
What the US can do is protect the IT economy the same way it protects the farm industry through taxes, tarriffs and other protective measures. If corporations don't like it, they are free to not do business in the US, evn if they are headquatered here. I'm sure being cut off from US markets will make them reconsider the savings gained from outsourcing. Sure, this flies in the face of free trade, but lets be honest, all countries are more than willing to do away with free trade to protect critical industries. It is time that the US government realize that IT is a critical industry that is worthy of protection. If not, in another decade or so they may have a hard time finding enough workers in-country for critical defense and other intitiatives as talent leaves the IT industry due to job insecurity and university students continue to shun IT majors as a viable career choice.
