You are wrong. Since at least the 90s, we've been demonstrating nuclear fusion in both Tokomak-type reactors and in inertial-confinement reactors. What isn't there yet is a commercialized reactor that routinely achieves "break-even" or better. But ITER (and its successor DEMO) will get us there eventually.
