Americans have been programmed to think nuclear radiation is the most toxic material on the planet

I think any critically thinking person (anywhere) is concerned about nuclear power. It is cheap and clean to operate, but with a substantial safety and environmental consequences. The nuclear fuel and isotopes involved are toxic (sorry-but it's true) it is extremely carcinogenic and will continue to be so for thousands of years. (plutonium's half life is 24,000 years) Can we guarantee containment of waste for 24,000 years?

In addition, there is the danger of accidental or intentional breach of containment. We needn't look any further than 3-mile island, Chernobyl or Sellafield for examples of complete core meltdowns. In addition to these there are scores of related criticality accidents which have killed many people already.

America is the largest producer of nuclear power in the world so we're not puritanical on the subject, but if we are concerned by its proliferation, thats not programming it's common sense
