Don't see the problem...
DRM will kill this. If you have to buy proprietary hardware for $60 (which I think is a lot for limited movie hardware) that someone is going to have to figure out (not tech geeks like all of us) it won't happen.

Two things:

1.) the media you're spending $$ on is REUSABLE. You load your movie(s) and go home. You watch the movie(s). They expire. You go back and reuse the media again. If they last 1000 rental cycles, let's see.. that works out to about 6 CENTS per rental. If it only lasts 100 rentals it's 60 CENTS per rental.

Somehow, I don't see 6 or 60 cents premium above current rentals to be THAT big a deal.

2.) The DRM will be broken. That much is a given. Just as CSS was broken and every other "update" to CSS has been hacked, whatever DRM included with this package will likewise be toast - maybe even before it even gets released.

Those who want to pirate movies this way will have the opportunity to do so.

As far as the average guy on the street who's not a tech geek, odds are he's already got a computer with an SD chip reader - and if NOT, he's probably got at least a computer that has a USB port.

No doubt, there will be a device released that adds a USB/SD chip reader for those who don't have a TV with one built in that should be easy to install - about as difficult as hooking up a DVD player. Most people can figure that much out.
