Any time I see "proprietary", it just reminds me that people will use it because they have to, until the next big thing comes along. Theres also the issue of cost.
Speaking about the reality, there is a lot of internet movie copying going on, and DRM seems like its a dead technology now in the music space, so movie DRM may well follow.
The idea of a proprietary interface is offputting, when people can schedule downloads overnight, and have them ready whenever they want them, for free, with existing hardware.
I understand that this is primarily the case with early adopters, however the digital lifestyle is moving beyond early adopters, and becoming more mainstream. The number of people with a computer at home and connected to the internet via high speed links is right up there. To transfer this onto a big screen TV is not difficult, and it can be done for free.
