Let me see -- $40 billion divided by maybe 2000 engineers. That comes to (rapid calculation) $20 million per.

Then he turns around and dismisses the cultural differences as having any effect on retention.

Wake up call, Mr. Gates: you're paying several times as much for the company as you ever will for keeping those engineers, and they're not going to stick around forever. If an engineer is worth $20 million per head to you, how come you don't pay your own engineering staff more?
