- Take some responsibility for yourself.

Are you kidding? Views like this are so ridiculous it's not even funny.
I am a 24 year old male who has been playing video games of all kinds, including First Person Shooters, since I was 8. Never once did I gotten the urge to walk into my high school or college campus and start blowing people away. I have yet to even think of walking into my office where I work with a firearm strapped to my body.
Biggest difference I can see is that my parents gave a crap about me as a child and made sure to pay attention to what I was doing with my free time. I wasn't allowed to spend 8 hours a day mindlessly playing video games. I wasn't allowed to play a gory, shoot-em-up bloodfest until I was in my teens.
Video games don't make people psychotic killers on their own. The Virginia Tech shooter was confirmed as not even being an avid video gamer after the horrendous events at the school. The issue is the parents who completely ignore their children until the kid's getting arrested or causing fights to try and get some attention. The shooters aren't people with loving parents who paid attention to their child and raised them with the slightest hint of how reality works. Do you truly believe that a young teenager can build a stockpile of heavy weaponry and bombs without a real parent catching a glimpse?
The issue here isn't video games or violent movies and TV, it's bad parenting. Too many people have children without any idea what that entails or even their own sense of moral behavior to instill into a growing child.
If you can't take the responsibility of raising a life until it's at least 18, don't reproduce. It's really and truly that simple. The kids who lose it and perform these horrific atrocities shouldn't be blamed, their parents should. Too many people yell and scream to blame the video game developers and movie-makers, when it's the ignorant and child-ignoring parents who should be made to pay for their children's crimes.
Stop blaming the games and start blaming the parents buying their kid a game like this at age 7. - Posted by: WyndWalker02@... Posted on: 02/15/08 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
