Sexy is as Sexy does.
Energy production isn't sexy period. That's because nearly everyone in the U.S. takes it for granted.

Now, turn off all the electricity, dry up the gas pumps & turn off the pipelines for a week, month, year. As soon as the first 50% of the population starve or freeze to death, people who can produce usable energy are going to be a heck of a lot sexier. As will those who can produce useful things without a whole lot of energy to do so.

Cheap fossil fuel production is going to tank within our life time. (Pun intended) Wind generation is cheap, but highly variable in output. Hydro, geothermal, and solar are all niche and expensive at the moment; (well, except for geothermal in some areas) but they will become economically viable as fossil fuels diminish. Fission nuclear could get us through a few hundred years before it runs out. All of these methods, save solar, have various amounts of environmental costs associated with them. And all of these current are dependent on oil for construction and maintenance.

As for the sexy part. Sexy is as sexy does. I.T. used to be a bunch of geeks and nerds until Bill Gates sold the world on Windows. It just takes a competent sales person to make green-tech sexy.
