- Two years ago I bought a Microtel computer loaded with Xandros 3.0 Linux for $200 from Walmart. It had everything I needed for my home office, including Open Office, right out of the box. Unfortunately, I had to make the computer dual boot with an old copy of Windows so I can do my income taxes. Soon main line tax software will come out with a Linux version. A major advantage is the computer had none of the usual crapware that comes preloaded on Windows computers. Drivers for hardware you may add is sometimes a problem.
