- OoooH MS terrorist

By illegal you mean the part were MS didn't confine itself to one manufacturer's hardware (e.g. Apple)? Or didn't charge near a thousand $$$ like CP/M? Or had some user support outside academic circles in the 1980s or at least didn't require junior or senior status in a science degree?
By the time Linux became publicly available in the mid-1990s, MS was well established as the generic OS for the generic PC hardware. And Linux didn't become friendly to those with limited programming literacy until well after 2000 somewhere between 2.2 and 2.6. Even now the most popular reason for home computers gaming is not well represented in Linux.
The fact is that in the 1980s no one really competed for being an OS for the generic (clone) PC market. Everyone else focused in their own special niche. Apple could have had the market except they focused on selling only their own hardware -- which was quite overpriced until after 1990. And during the 1990s Apple was even more vicious than MS in terms of lawsuits and marketing (lots of free computers to schools before MS ever gave a free OS).
But fortunately Linux is finally getting all the features and user friendly aspects. And since it is FREE I don't expect the see MS in homes 8 years from now if the games come in the next 2-3 years. Which means you won't see MS in business or government much after 10-15 years.
And be honest -- not being FREE is what you got against MS. You likely spend $60 on a single original game purchase and over $500 per year on game expenses. But you ***** because the basic OS and hardware to support those games also change. True the OS doesn't do anything but support the FUN programs or business applications. Still you'd think people would not be so hot over expenses beign spread out -- except of course being poor keeps you from having all the kool stuff the richest people have.
Basic unfulfilled envy is why people hate MS so much. - Posted by: wellduh Posted on: 01/25/08 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
