Correct, you don't own!
And due to this lack of ownership, you have no say in having Windows, Office or some other licensed application (from any company) calling back to the originating company. If you are saying that you can circumvent part of the application, then I would suggest that you read both the license agreement (EULA, etc.) and the DMCA, the latter of which states that you can not circumvent this (ie. it is a crime).
