The ISPA makes it illegal to install software if it leaks personal information or comprimises security?

Not good enough. Corporations are masters of getting around the letter of the law. They can collect alot of information which may not be considered "personal" by their carefully crafted definitions but information that we may not wish to share just the same.

The law should state; 'absolutely no software installed without authorization. Ever'. This should be construed to include tracking cookies. Anything less is unacceptable.

I agree Congress has a unique ability to take a simple idea and complicate it beyond reason but it is the job of government to protect the rights of citizens. I understand that the marketing implications are huge for these companies but not when it utilizes tactics which are really no different than breaking and entering my home to secretly install surveillance equipment to monitor me.

No software installed without my expressed permission. Period. EULA's be damned.
