Just because they're doing better doesn't mean they're breaking the laws...
The laws are meant to stop unfair and illegal business practices from driving the competition out of business, and thus leaving the law-breakers in a monopoly. However, creating a better product and offering it at a good price is not an unfair practice, and if it has somehow become illegal to do that, then we've lost our free-market democracy. Intel needs to do more than make a great product at a low cost-to-consumers in order to warrant this treatment. Becoming a monopoly as a result of making the best product is the basic nature of a free-market system. Heck, it's the goal.
Besides, even having 99% of the market does *not* make you a monopoly. It just means that your product is a lot better in the eyes of the market. Period. You aren't a monopoly 'till there is *no* competition, not just *little* competition.

And if that competition disappears because of a weaker product or higher pricing, it is not the result of any unfair practices. And unfair *circumstances* are not the fault of the bigger company *just for being bigger*. Not unless that bigger company actually breaks the law to destroy the competition.

It may suck for the little guy to be so little, but he should take responsibility for his own successes and failures (just as we all should do), and not rely on the pity of government regulations to make life easier for him and harder for someone else just because that someone else is doing better work or better marketing, or whatever.

And by the way, I *am* the little guy in this case. I co-own a small indie record label that is barely keeping its head above water. In fact, we all still work day-jobs just to keep our own heads above water. But do I ask the gov't to regulate Warner Bros. or Universal? Hell no! I work my butt off to try to become the next one of them, and eventually to crush them. And I wish them the best of luck at crushing my tenacious tush, even though I hope they don't succeed at it.

So, AMD... take responsibility for either creating a better product, slashing your own prices, or prepare to find another job. But quit relying on someone eles to save your butt. Make me *want* your product instead!
