Why all the legal delays if it will be such an easy win?
Full disclosure: I used to work for AMD, long time removed though. I currently use both AMD and Intel products as I see fit. I am very familiar with the original legal dispute between these two companies, and I am 100% certain that AMD was absolutely justified in taking legal action against Intel. AMD eventually prevailed on almost every count, although there is no way they could ever recover the true damages resulting from Intel's shady business practices. It was quite a feat just to survive the legal and marketing might that Intel was able to exert and go on to offer competitive products. Sometimes AMD's products have been highly competitive on price and performance, other times they have fallen behind. To a large extent because of the damage that had already been done, even when AMD's products were far superior, the company was not able to grow to cash reserves, manufacturing capacity, and market share to the point of being on equal footing with the larger competitor. Intel can try to dismiss antitrust claims by saying that AMD had very significant market gains when they had a clearly superior product, but over the long haul Intel obviously has a monopoly.

I am not as familiar with the current antitrust charges, but I have no doubt that Intel continues to market products worldwide with monopolistic practices that are at least aggressive enough to warrant challenges by competitors and the courts.

Someone questioned where any fines, if collected, would go and if they would in fact line the pockets of bureaucrats. Even if that is the case I would rather have that than to have the 800 pound gorilla go unchecked with no refuge for smaller competitors. I enjoy drastically better pricing on computer products because of the vigorous competition that has been mounted. We can't allow the monopoly to drive the smaller innovative competitors out of business.
