Like most things, it depends how it's presented.: If I were doing it, I would sit down with the customer and explain that if security is a primary motivation, then it requirs more than a bandaid to the OS or even replacement of the OS with something that has the same legacy holes. In other words I would try to make a case for the upgrade.

But at the same time, I would be HONEST and tell them that if they just have to keep the old application, there is no real reason to upgrade the OS.
