I want MS to survive...I'm not a kill ms type guy.

I also want Linux and Open Source to gain both in the server and yes the desktop.

The reason is competition. That is what our economy system is based on. With out it you get what we have with the medical/pharmacutical area. No competition means no price control, no choices for the consumer means "we" are locked in with a vendor and the vendor knows it..worse still our power as a consumer is lost, for the vendor knows we can not go elsewhere. Then the quality of the vendors products suffer do to natural human laziness and eventual arrogance sets in. The consumer is no longer a vital component that should be served as well as possible but rather a serf who should be glad to get what they do and should be happy to pay for said at what ever price the master determines.
